A long, long time ago...

Great audition tonight mostly due to the fact that the prop was a chainsaw...
right up my alley!!!

Anyway, I love that the boys keep me grounded and bring me back to reality... I gave them each a Flintstone vitamin and told them the character was 'BamBam'. Sean asked me if I watched Flintstones when I was a kid and I said 'yes'... he then gave me an 'I don't believe you look' and asked how since television wasn't invented then. I think we need a crash course in the history of technology and a timeline that gets posted on the wall because I'm tired of them thinking I'm older than dishes!

*Sigh*

We were just watching this most annoying cartoon Peppa the Pig... they were talking about what was around when the parents were little and Sean asked me if there were 'buckets' when I was little... then he asked me if there were 'tennis rackets'... since I said 'yes' to both of those, Ethan followed up with "well there weren't any televisions"... when they found out there WERE in fact televisions, Ethan said "well there weren't any iPads"... he had me there... Sean fired again "there weren't any telephones either"... I told them we had telephones so Ethan said "well there weren't any cell phones"... and we ended it there. Now I'm going to go color my hair.

Great Mommy Moments...

Today I had one of those 'great mommy moments' that could also be considered a 'come to Jesus moment'... we were at the Children's Science Museum and Maddie was playing with a water table and got all wet.  So, like a good mom, I got her some paper towel while watching her head down the maze hallway... just as she got around the corner, I grabbed the towel and took off after her.  Too late!  I looked all over and couldn't find my little monkey.

Trying to squelch the instinct to completely freak out, I enlisted one of the staff members to help.  Within two minutes she had radioed every staff member in the museum to start looking for her... two minutes later a woman's voice came over the walkie talkie saying she found Maddie, but Maddie wouldn't come with her.

We headed to the back of the museum and there was Maddie rounding the corner from an area quite a ways from where I lost her... I would not have thought she could have got that far.  I thanked the ladies profusely and followed Maddie to yet another section of the museum... she was un-phased!

I am now rethinking that monkey back pack with the leash attached!

So true...

Don't fall Kitty!

Maddie was so worried her 'Kitty' was going to fall off of the bathroom counter...

Let's 'play'...

Finally put up the 'stage' curtains.  I had this idea when we first purchased our house and never got around to it... the arch is right across from the stairs which makes a great 'house'.  I picked up an inexpensive curtain rod from IKEA when we were in Denver and I had the curtains left over from our rental house.  I installed the rod very close to the ceiling so if I remove the curtains it is not as noticeable... I sewed two midsize curtains together to create the long stage curtains.

Life's a Stage... and now my kids can 'play'!

Let's 'George Muller' that...

I dropped our sitter off last night after she sat for the boys (poor girl, I was so tired I talked her ear off the entire way to her house). On the way to her house we were talking about The Best Christmas Pageant Ever and how awesome the cast was and how it sold out and what a great experience it was. I found out last night that pretty much ALL the kids that showed up for the three hour audition were cast in the play. This amazes me because not only did the cast feel 'hand picked' to me because they all fit their roles perfectly even down to hair color, but all 25 kids got along. I got to thinking that I know I had said a prayer before the boys auditioned that they would get a part and that it would be an awesome first theater experience... and I'm sure others had said a few prayers of their own too. It's as if God sent those kids (and adults) to that theater specifically. Not only that, he made sure there were almost a 1,000 people during the holiday season that were free those three weekends to sell out each of the shows. He wrapped a line of people around the building that waited previous to each show to get in... and he helped deliver a homespun Christmas Story to each and every audience member. Who knows, maybe he did that because he felt that was a great way to potentially reach someone that would have never stepped foot in a church. "For unto YOU a child is born!"

We've got lots of family 'prayer' stories that could only have happened because God answers prayers... to include how we ended up in Albuquerque. I don't believe in coincidences... maybe that what's mainstream calls answers to prayer requests. Anyway, the boys and I recently finished reading the book about the life of George Muller, a Christian missionary who started Bristol, UK's first orphanages back in the 1800's. The foundation behind the orphanages was that they would be started and run on prayer and that God would provide everything George needed. George never asked for a dime. It worked and the orphanages were a testament to what God can do in the lives of believers. (It's an AMAZING read and we have coined the phrase in our family that we are going to 'George Muller' that prayer and git er done.)

So I shared this big long story because we are trying to 'George Muller' a HUGE request right now and last night I was trying to fall asleep thinking about all of this and felt compelled to share the story. I'll get back on here and share the outcomes as they come in... keep on praying peeps. He listens AND answers!!!

My 'pretties'...

She won't let me even brush her hair... but she is more than happy to wear 'pretties' in her hair as long as she puts them there!

Bella...

Somewhere in this litter of 12 (!) is 'Bella', our new puppy! We get to pick her out Super Bowl Weekend and bring her home the middle of February. She's about 3 weeks old right now!

Oreo addiction...

This girls an Oreo cookie addict... so is her Daddy... so they fight over the last 'cook cook'!

The Great 'little' pianist...

I lowered our keyboard so Maddie can play it now... she spent over an hour yesterday playing.

In the wake of yet another school shooting...

A friend of mine told her kids to NEVER say anything mean to another kid because you never know which kid might bring a gun to school... once upon a time you told your kids to be nice to other kids for the sake of being nice... not because you feared for your child's life. I will adamantly say that I do not believe gun control fixes anything, but I will say that when a 12 year old gets their hands on a loaded shotgun and takes it to school... those adults that he got that shotgun from should be charged to the fullest extent of the law. There is NO excuse for sloppy gun ownership... lawful or otherwise.

Praying for the two victims and their families of the Roswell, NM school shooting.

What Does The Kid Say... Awesome!

Ethan made me do it...

One of the hardest lessons to teach your children is for them to take ownership of their decisions and not to 'blame' others when the consequences are not what they intended. This is a hard lesson for many adults to wrap their heads around too...

Denver and Mythbusters...

We took our almost annual winter trip to Denver the beginning of January... ran into a hideous snow storm on the way up, but eventually made it to the hotel safe and sound... and only about 3 hours later than we had hoped!  We took the boys to the last day of the Mythbusters exhibit at the Denver Museum of Natural History.  They loved it!  I have to admit that it was really cool.

It was nice to get away for a couple days...
